Washington resumes weather siren test

The City of Washington will hear the test of the warning sirens this morning for the first time since the November 17th tornado. The emergency weather sirens will sound for three minutes at the standard monthly test time: at 10:00a.m. on the first Tuesday of the month.

The American Red Cross says the sirens are, of course, to help people know when to seek shelter in the face of dangerous weather. But Red Cross officials say each monthly test of the sirens could also be a stress trigger for children and some adults.

The agency suggests building in time during the day to talk with children about the test if needed. Adults are also being reminded they may have a triggered reaction and are encouraged to talk through the associated feelings.
