A weekly spotlight on arts activities in Central Illinois. Out and About is made possible in part by PNC Financial Services and a grant from the Illinois Arts Council.

'His Light Still Shines' in Heritage Ensemble's 25th annual 'Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Choral Celebration'

On this week’s episode of Out and About, Dr. Mae Gilliland Wright of ArtsPartners of Central Illinois is joined by Sharon Samuels Reed, founder and artistic director of The Heritage Ensemble, to discuss their 25th annual "Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Choral Celebration". This event will take place on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 3 p.m. at the Illinois Central College Performing Arts Center.

Reed highlights the significance of the featured piece, "His Light Still Shines," by Moses Hogan, and its enduring resonance in today’s world. She also shares how the Ensemble’s mission of 'edutainment' — educating through engaging performances — continues to connect the lessons of the past with the challenges and hopes of the present.

Jody Holtz is WCBU's assistant program and development director, All Things Considered host, as well as the producer of WCBU’s arts and culture podcast Out and About.
