Pekin man sentenced to 40 years in prison for 2022 murder

A gavel rests on a judge's bench in a blurry courtroom. The text "WCBU Courts" sits on top of that photo.

A Pekin man will serve the next four decades in prison after a Tazewell County judge sentenced him Friday.

Kolby Kincade, 21, pleaded guilty to fatally hitting and kicking Richard Wass, 53, at his Pine St. apartment in Pekin on Halloween 2022.

Kincade told Pekin police he kicked in Wass's door and struck him several times.

Kincade was initially charged with aggravated battery, but the charge was upgraded to first-degree murder after Wass died of his injuries in November 2022.

Kincade must serve the full sentence, minus 442 days time served.
