Five Washington locations are all spruced up for the holidays - and ready for your visit.

The Washington Historical Society is hosting its 36th annual Christmas House Tour on Tuesday, Dec. 13 from 1-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m.

Melissa Heil is the historical society's executive director. She's excited the tours are back this year.

"Each of the locations is decorated for Christmas. It's self guided. You go at your own pace through each home and from location to location," she said.

One of the properties on the tour this year is the Danforth home at 106 W. Holland.

"People in Washington, and really in the area are probably very familiar with this house. It was built in 1869. And my understanding is that people who come to the house tour will be able to tour every room in the house, as well as the carriage house," Heil said. "And every room is decorated for Christmas. And certainly this old house has a story to tell. So that's gonna be really interesting."

Homes at 104 Penny Lane and 1300 Westgate will also be open for tours, as well as St. Mark's Lutheran Church at 200 S. Main and the historical society's building at 128 Washington Square. Heil said their building was almost completely renovated when they moved in.

The historical society will have refreshments, and a display of member Jean Montgomery's collection of antique Christmas ornaments.

"It also gives people kind of a casual atmosphere to sit and relax with the friends that they've been enjoying the tour with and maybe talk about the places they've seen," Heil said.

Tickets can be purchased for $17 before the event at Kimpling's Ace Hardware, Step Back in Time, Homespun, and the Washington Historical Society's website. The historical society will sell tickets for $20 on the day of the event at their building.
