Veteran Tazewell state's attorney resigning

Tazewell County State's Attorney Stewart Umholtz is resigning the job he's held since 1995.

Umholtz is the only candidate nominated to fill the resident circuit court judge vacancy for Tazewell County on the November ballot.

Umholtz says he's filing his resignation, effective Nov. 30, in order to allow a candidate to be slated for the state's attorney position on the fall ballot.

Umholtz, a Republican, recommends Tazewell County chief assistant state's attorney Kevin Johnson be appointed by the county board to fill the vacancy.
