Duhs drops out of Peoria County Sheriff's race, endorses Watkins

Peoria County

One of the candidates for Peoria County Sheriff is dropping out of the race.

Deputy Blaine Duhs says he's ending his Republican primary bid and endorsing Chris Watkins, after Watkins announced his candidacy Monday.

Both men currently work in the sheriff's office. Duhs said he and Watkins have been friends for 20 years, and share many of the same views on law enforcement. Duhs said he doesn't want to tear Watkins down in a political campaign.

Watkins currently is unopposed in the GOP primary. No Democrats have announced a bid to succeed retiring sheriff Brian Asbell.
