A Day That Will Live in Infamy: The 80th Anniversary of the Attack on Pearl Harbor

On Tuesday, November 30th, at 6:00 p.m. central, the LaSalle Public Library will virtually host Kimberley Ortega, Museum Technician – National Museum of the American Sailor – for a presentation honoring the 80th anniversary of attack on Pearl Harbor.

The shocking attack and major defeat at Pearl Harbor was the catalyst for the emergence of a new and determined navel fleet. In this virtual program, Kimberley Ortega, will examine the events leading up to the attack, how sailors and nurses responded, as well as the aftermath and legacy of the attack that is considered the Navy’s greatest defeat.

Kimberley Ortega holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in History with minors in Museum Studies and Anthropology, and a Master of Public Administration degree with an Emphasis in Museum Administration. While at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Kimberley had the opportunity to work at the University Museum and as an Education Intern with the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio in Oak Park.

Kimberley went on to become the Assistant Curator at Midway Village Museum where she curated four temporary exhibitions, brought satellite displays to Rockford Public Library branches, and added to Midway’s social media presence. Kim started working with the National Museum of the American Sailor in May 2020 as a Museum Technician.

This program is free and open to all. It will be presented virtually through Zoom. To attend this program, register by going to: https://bit.ly/3BrDK7T.
