Deborah talks with Randy Stickles, the agent in charge of the Calexico station for the United States Border Patrol. They discuss the sharp increase in the number of illegal border crossings in that area. Stickles believes that it's the result of Operation Gatekeeper in San Diego, which is approximately one hundred miles west of Calexico. Operation Gatekeeper has dramatically reduced the number of illegal crossings near San Diego...but illegal immigration simply seems to be shifting to areas not as heavily patrolled. They also discuss the increase in the seizures of marijuana coming across the border...Stickles estimates that the numbers have doubled in the last year.
