But despite Minority Leader Jim Durkin's loss, Michelle O'Neill reports she's optimistic the new legislative session will be productive.Radio story, podcast

Summary

In the November election, Michelle O'Neill reports the former mayor of Savanna defeated democrat, Mike Smiddy, in the 71st District. McCombie says her number one priority is the budget.

Durkin will start making committee assignments later this month, and plans to give new lawmakers seats on appropriations committees. McCombie says she has no preference for serving on other committees.

On Wednesday, about 50 people from her district went to Springfield to support McCombie as she was sworn in. Today, she and an aide attended an all-day training before coming back to Savanna for the long weekend.
