Rauner wants plan in place to deal with Ferguson-type situation in Il

Illinois’ newly-elected governor, Bruce Rauner, says he wants to facilitate a discussion on relations between police and community members.

That’s after there were rallies in cities around Illinois in response to a grand jury decision in Missouri to not indict a police officer who shot and killed an unarmed black teenager.

Rauner says he wants to plan for the kind of reaction seen in Ferguson, Missouri.
"I hope and believe everyone involved can stay calm and we can have peace. The violence and protests are of concern. We want everyone to be safe. We need to be respectful of each other."

Rauner says he’s consulting with officials who work in the state’s criminal justice system. He says he wants recommendations from them on changes he can try to implement to the legal system.
