Peoria will soon have a new City Treasurer, with Jim Montelongo and Brooke Petty Sommerville each hoping residents will choose them for the role. Both candidates point to their public service experience among their qualifications to serve as treasurer.

Montelongo said he decided to run after former city treasurer Stephen Morris resigned from the position in May. He said his experience on the council and background in business give him the needed experience for the role.
