A Republican Illinois lawmaker is calling on the governor to resign. He’s also endorsing the governor’s opponent in the primary.

State Rep. John Cabello told Rockford television station WREX that a lack of credibility was the main reason he thinks Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner, a fellow Republican, should resign.
The Machesney Park Republican said Rauner promised legislators in private he would not sign House Bill 40, a law that expands government funding of abortions for women on Medicaid and state employee insurance. But the governor eventually did sign it in September, and Cabello said he “can’t trust any words that he says from here on out.”
Rauner’s opponent in the GOP primary, Wheaton State Rep. Jeanne Ives, announced recentlythat Cabello was joining a group of Republican lawmakers, including State Senators Tim Bivins of Dixon and Kyle McCarter of Vandalia, who are endorsing her in the race for governor.
