Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner says he wants to clear up his stance about government unions. Rauner says he’s been portrayed unfairly in the news media.
"Crystal clear, I am not anti-union. Repeat. Not anti-union."
Rauner’s proposed so-called right-to-work laws in parts of Illinois, and he wants to end “fair share fees” for new state employees.
Rauner says balancing Illinois’ budget isn’t enough to attract companies.
"If all we do is balance the budget and it ain’t that hard to balance the budget if you really want to balance the budget. Nobody in Illinois has wanted to for years, we can balance the budget, but if that’s all we do, we won’t fix our problems."
Rauner says Illinois is an “island” right now - since several of its neighboring states are debating right to work laws.
