Snowy weather and subzero temperatures are headed for Illinois this week.
On Monday, people around the state woke up to below-normal temperatures. The coldest temperatures were in northern Illinois, where the National Weather Service said it was 2 degrees below zero at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. It was a bit warmer in central Illinois - 9 degrees in Springfield and in the teens farther south.
Forecasters say snow is expected to begin falling late Monday afternoon in northern and central Illinois. As much as 6 inches could fall in some areas by early Tuesday.
Then, temperatures are expected to plummet Wednesday night statewide to as low as 14 degrees below zero in the Chicago area, 13 degrees below zero in central Illinois and 2 degrees below zero in southern Illinois.
