No one was injured after flash flooding caused a Peoria daycare's ceiling to collapse Wednesday afternoon.

Peoria firefighters and paramedics responded around 3 p.m. to 123 You 'N Me Preschool, 809 W. Detweiller Drive, on a flooding report. Firefighters on thee scene found several rooms with ceiling tiles collapsing due to flooding damage.

About 100 children and staff members were moved to safety.

Peoria Fire Department Battalion Chief Steve Rada said the afternoon's torrential downpour caused the roof to leak. The ceiling gave way, leading to severe flooding throughout the building.

Power and gas to the building were shut off.

A damage estimate wasn't immediately available.

The flash flooding also led municipalities to close numerous roadways Thursday, including Sheridan Road from Parkway to Florence in Pekin, and N. 2nd from Harriet to Charlotte in Pekin. The Illinois Department of Transportation also shut down the ramp from eastbound I-74 to Washington in East Peoria due to rising floodwaters.
