Morton Pins Shopping Center Revival Hopes on Zoning Changes

Morton village
Morton, IL Village Government

The Morton Village Board will vote Tuesday on zoning changes meant to spur economic development at two shopping centers with high vacancy rates.

The village board will vote on re-zoning the Field Shopping Center and Jackson Plaza from General Business Districts to Highway and Service Commercial Districts.

The change would allow businesses like warehouses, hotels, vehicle repair garages, and welding shops to locate to the shopping centers.

Morton Planning and Zoning Director Roger Spangler says the zoning changes will make the properties more marketable. Both are located near major interstates.

The village board meets at 7 p.m.
