Lincoln’s historic rail depot renovation is garnering statewide recognition. The Illinois chapter of the American Public Works Association says the revitalization is its “Project of the Year.” The $4 million project included the complete renovation of the depot building, a new boarding platform and upgraded passenger amenities.
It also features restored windows, doors and a ticket counter from the original 1911 structure. The Lincoln depot had closed to passenger use in 1972, but is now a stop along Amtrak’s Chicago-to-St. Louis route.
