As the country woke up to news of the deadly killing in Las Vegas, Illinois' House and Congressional leaders issued public responses to the atrocity.
Rep. Cheri Bustos issued a statement that says she’s praying for the victims and their families. Bustos, a Democrat, also stresses the urgent need for solutions to prevent more mass shootings from happening in the future.
Shortly after, Sen. Tammy Duckworth, also a Democrat, sent an email statement, saying "such senseless and horrifying acts of violence have no place in America or any other nation." Duckworth also thanked first responders for their bravery.
Several other politicians shared condolences and sentiments on Twitter, including Gov. Bruce Rauner.
By 11:00am, the death count had risen to nearly 58 victims.
Terrible news out of Las Vegas this morning. Violence and hate are never the answer.

The time was yesterday, today & always—There is no doubt the absence of smart gun laws plays a role in these attacks. We can &must do better https://t.co/gRaEbAwpws
